Streamer Fishing For Brown Trout

It’s one of the best times of the year to be on the water here in Virginia. The days are getting shorter, temperatures are dropping, leaves are changing color, and our tailwater brown trout are eating big flies. October and November tend to be the better months for targeting bigger brown trout on streamers, however, bigger flies are on the menu all the way through the winter. Your standard for this method is going to be 7 and 8 weight rods, and we use a mixture of sinking lines and floating lines depending on the situation. We use streamers from two to seven inches, depending on the situation. It is important to note that targeting brown trout with streamers is very much not a numbers game, although it is an effective way to target the one. Trophy brown trout are hard-earned, but nothing compares to connecting to one on a streamer hunt. Whether you are a seasoned fly angler, or you want to hone the craft of streamer fishing for meat-eating brown trout, we can help you achieve your goals this fall and winter.

P.S. Nymphs certainly get the job done too.
