A day on the water with our guides
Hello All!
This is the first of many blog posts we plan on doing here at Virginia Trophy Guides to keep our clients and others in the know about what is going on with Central and Southwest Virginia’s waters.
However, this blog post will be a little different. We’re going to go over what to bring and what to expect on a trip with us here at Virginia Trophy Guides.
Let’s go over what to bring. This can vary depending on the season, but there are a few items that will always be necessary. A valid Virginia fishing license is a must, we assume every client comes ready with one. Polarized sunglasses are practically a necessity, for a multitude of reasons. Primarily, for the ability to reduce glare on the water, and aid in seeing the into the water and locate the fly for better odds of bringing fish to the net. Another is a safety concern, as we throw around streamers, musky flies the size of your forearm, and clunky nymph rigs for tailwater trout, the potential for a hook or split shot to the face isn’t out of the realm of possibilities. Sun screen is never a bad idea, no matter the time of the year. A hat and weather appropriate clothes and waders is also very much recommended. We can always attempt to accommodate those that are lacking in any of these areas.
As far as tackle goes, we absolutely have everything you will need to be successful on the water. However, we understand some folks love the thrill of catching fish on their own setups, and if that is something you desire then feel free to bring a rod and reel and some flies if you desire to do so.
Full days on the water with us don’t go by the clock, they go by the available sunlight and length of the float we have available. We spend all of the time necessary to ensure your day is exactly the way it should be. Lunch is provided on full day trips, whether they are floats or walk and wade, and if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies we strongly encourage you to make us aware, although we will absolutely ask in preliminary discussions.
A good attitude goes a long way. This is especially true in musky fishing and hunting large brown trout with streamers. It’s not always easy, it doesn’t always translate to fish to the net, but we promise that it’s what we want to see happen. We bring a good attitude to every experience on the water, and we strive to make your day as excellent as possible in every way.
We look forward to spending a day on the water with you!
