River Report 12/28/22

the streak of frigid weather has the James river and new river cold in temperatures, with some slush and shelf ice on the banks the last few days. the weather is, however, about to take a turn for the slightly warmer with very light rain in the next week. this should get the musky eating better again! until then, fish deep and slow. bigger flies with a slow retrieve has worked better for us as of late.

the Jackson river is still at minimal release, but a good spike in the water recently from the feeder creeks had given it some good color. the smith river is relatively the same, with some more consistent releases. we recommend fishing light tippet and very small nymphs, although streamers have been working on the banks and in the deeper, slower runs in both rivers.
