Pre-Spawn SmallMouth Bass
it’s been a great start to the Pre-spawn smallmouth bass season, and things are moving fast. starting off with some very chilly nights, we weren’t seeing great action until almost mid-day. however, with some very warm days, and particularly warm nights, we are seeing action almost from the jump in our day.
there have been a whole lot of citation smallmouth bass caught between the two of our boats, and we’ve still got a solid couple weeks left of true pre-spawn fishing before we probably see stable water temps that will send them into the motions.
the standard pre-spawn flies have been the meal ticket. as long as it’s got some degree of white in it, it seems to be working. although, we’ve done particularly well on white/chartreuse and white/grey. as far as gear goes, jerk baits have outperformed crank baits, in similar baitfish style paint jobs.
if you’re interested in getting on the boat for the remaining few days we have left, or would like to go ahead and reserve your day for pre-spawn madness next year don’t hesitate to reach out! it’s one of the best times of year.
